Cargo v3.1.6

What's New

Greyscalegorilla plugins and scripts now live directly inside Cargo. Plugins and scripts automate your layout, lighting, and animation setups inside Cinema 4D so you can stay in your flow state and hit render faster.

Tools are available exclusively for Greyscalegorilla and Everything Bundle subscription tiers, with launch support covering Cinema 4D 2023 through 2026. After installing the connector, you can install entries with one click. Read step-by-step instructions here.

If you're migrating from the legacy Greyscalegorilla Hub, you'll need to delete the Hub folder from your Greyscalegorilla Preferences Plugins folder so Cargo can handle licensing and authentication. You don't need to delete your actual plugins or scripts, just the Hub folder itself. Read step-by-step instructions here.

Technical Specifications and Included Tools

  • Availability: Installation is restricted to active Greyscalegorilla and Everything Bundle subscribers. Enterprise Teams accounts continue using the legacy Hub pipeline.
  • Version Compatibility: Native support is available for Cinema 4D versions 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. Legacy software versions prior to 2023 aren't supported.
  • Available Plugins: Includes full deployment for Signal, GorillaCam, HDRI Link, Drop Zone, Social Frame, Align Tools, Renamer, and Light Kit Pro, alongside its corresponding Cyc Types, Light Types, and Essential, Pop Studios, and Product Studios Preset Packs.
  • Available Script Packs: Installs dedicated workflow scripts covering Signal Scripts, Lens Tools, Rotation Tools, Camera Scripts, Layer Scripts, Light Scripts, and Utility Scripts.
  • Update Infrastructure: Cargo tracks tool versions automatically. When an update rolls out, an Update button appears on the tool card to overwrite the active file.

Cargo v3.1.6

What's New

Cargo now features native compatibility for 3ds Max 2024 through 2027, and we've officially deprecated support for legacy versions 2021 through 2023. The new architecture drastically accelerates asset delivery and stabilizes heavy scene loading.

You don't have to waste time manually mapping textures, linking maps, or correcting gamma variations across different render engines anymore. To keep your viewport responsive when you scale up your world-building, the importer relies on next-gen geometric instances to keep RAM overhead low.

This update also brings complete Greyscalegorilla support to 3ds Max for the first time. The moment you send an asset, Cargo automatically builds native PBR texture graphs tailored to whichever render engine is currently active in your scene.

Technical Specifications and Features

  • Automated Material Graphs: Cargo detects your active render engine and constructs native PBR shading networks for V-Ray, Arnold, Redshift, and Octane immediately upon import.
  • OpenUSD 7.0 Standard: Modernized USD schemas dramatically increase parsing speeds. Note that legacy local data folders using Version 6 or lower schemas will throw geometry parsing errors.
  • Greyscalegorilla Pipeline Integration: Populates your active 3ds Max material library with Greyscalegorilla collections, models, and materials in a single click.
  • Scene Architecture Optimization: Full support for geometric instances prevents viewport bloating and messy project files. Assets assemble with deep structural parental chains and perfectly preserved pivot point data.
  • Updated Version Lifecycle: Full support for 3ds Max 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027. Legacy software versions 2021 through 2023 are officially deprecated.

Blender Importer Update

Cargo v3.1.6

What's New

Cargo now features the Import as Real workflow for Blender, removing the friction of navigating restrictive reference containers. You can bring complex, multi-object assets into your scene as fully editable geometry right out of the gate.

You don't have to waste time manually separating collection instances or compromising your scene performance anymore. To keep your viewport responsive, the importer relies on automated MeshData instancing under the hood to keep RAM overhead low and file sizes lightweight.

This update also integrates your setup directly into Blender's native Sidebar panel under a dedicated Cargo tab. When you enter Edit Mode on any single component of an imported assembly, topological updates propagate across identical instances instantly so you can stay in your creative flow.

Technical Specifications and Features

  • Import as Real Editing Mode: Bypasses standard collection instances and restrictive reference containers, allowing complex assets to enter your scene as fully editable geometry immediately.
  • Automated MeshData Instancing: Intelligently preserves the underlying instancing built into the assets, ensuring Blender keeps file sizes lightweight and RAM overhead stable.
  • Frictionless Asset Decoupling: Isolates specific props and severs links within an imported cluster directly from the native Object Data Properties panel to quickly build unique variants.
  • Dual-Import Workflows: Provides a direct choice between Collection Instances for massive environment layouts and Import as Real for immediate kitbashing.
  • Global Multi-Asset Editing: Automatically propagates topological updates, such as slicing or beveling, across all identical instances the moment you alter a single component.
  • N-Panel Settings Integration: Houses all importer configuration toggles inside Blender's native Sidebar panel under the dedicated Cargo tab for immediate access.

Cargo v3.1.6

What's New

Cargo now features persistent library filtering, removing the friction of resetting your asset view every time you navigate the platform. When you filter the grid to view only KitBash3D or Greyscalegorilla assets, your selection remains active across all pages. This keeps your discovery engine focused, removes the friction of repetitive clicks, and lets you get back to your scene faster.

Cinema 4D

Feature

Smart Send in Cargo

Learn More

Alt image

Cargo v3.1.6

What's New

Introducing Smart Send, a Cinema 4D-exclusive feature in Cargo built to eliminate the manual setup behind your lighting and texture assets. With Smart Send, you don't have to download an asset and build the supporting rig or node chain by hand anymore. Cargo reads the asset type and constructs the correct infrastructure inside your scene automatically, keeping you focused on your composition.

Whether you're sending a detailed model from a KitBash3D Kit or a studio-grade light map from Greyscalegorilla, Cargo constructs the correct Redshift light rigs for you. You don't have to copy file paths or wire up basic components anymore.

Technical Specifications and Features

  • Automated Light Rig Construction: Cargo detects Gobo or Area Light Map assets, builds the corresponding Redshift Spotlight or Area Light, and parents the fixture to a custom Null Controller for precise orbital positioning.
  • Direct Material Node Injection: When sending Surface Imperfections, Cargo injects a PBR Texture node and a connected Ramp node directly into the active Cinema 4D material editor graph. This provides immediate clamping and color correction options for roughness and bump maps.
  • Instant HDRI Activation: Sending an HDRI creates a Redshift Dome Light in your Object Manager, loads the texture, and activates the light in a single step. Smart Send is additive by default, allowing you to stack multiple dome lights in a single scene.
  • Drag-and-Drop Look-Development: Downloaded asset thumbnails in the Cargo grid can be dragged directly into any texture path or file slot inside Cinema 4D, enabling instant live updates in your active render view.
  • Platform and Renderer Compatibility: Smart Send currently supports Cinema 4D utilizing the Redshift render engine. Support for other DCCs, including Blender, Maya, Houdini, and Unreal Engine, is not available in this release.
