OVERVIEW

What's New in Cargo 3.0

Cargo 2.0 was functional. It did what it needed to do. You could browse Kits, download assets, and get to work. But we always knew it could be more. So with our new partners at Greyscalegorilla, we got to work on Cargo 3.0.

We rebuilt the interface, redesigned the discovery system, unified two libraries under one roof, and standardized everything on USD. Here's what actually changed and why it matters for your work.

Two Libraries, One Platform

The biggest change is what's inside. Cargo 3.0 brings the full KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla libraries together in one place. KitBash3D Kits, models, and genre materials alongside Greyscalegorilla scan-based materials, HDRIs, textures, and surface imperfections.

You don't need separate apps or separate accounts. One sign-in, one search, one library. Structure and surface in the same system for the first time.

Transform Your Workflow

Discovery That Actually Works

Smart Search

Smart Search understands what you mean, not just what you type. Search "dark industrial" or "ornate fantasy" and Cargo interprets intent. You describe the vibe. It finds the assets.

Image Search

Image Search lets you skip words entirely. Drop in a reference image from a mood board, a client deck, a film still. Cargo surfaces assets that match visually.

Random Roll

Random Roll is the escape hatch. When everything feels too predictable, one click gives you a new direction within your current filters. Controlled randomness.

Show Similar

Show Similar is the rabbit hole. Pick any asset, hit Show Similar, and Cargo pulls you sideways into related results. Variations, neighbors, things that share the same DNA. You can chain it. One find turns into a discovery session.

New Assets, Automatically

Your library keeps growing. New Kits, models, and materials from both KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla show up in Cargo as they're released. No manual downloads. No checking for updates. Open the app and the new stuff is there.

A Rebuilt Interface

The layout is fresh and new. Feels modern. Navigation docks or collapses. Filters persist or disappear. Asset details expand without hijacking your screen.

You can run it dense and information-rich or stripped down to just the grid. The interface adapts to how you work instead of telling you how to work.

It's faster too. The asset grid loads quicker. Search responds immediately. Everything feels more responsive. When you open Cargo several times a day, that matters.

USD Under the Hood

Every asset in Cargo 3.0 is standardized under a new unified USD (Universal Scene Description) schema. Hierarchies are predictable. Scale stays consistent. Materials stay attached correctly across supported DCCs.

The new system also has instancing built in, which means smaller file sizes and faster downloads. Scenes stay lightweight even as they get complex.

We also rebuilt the DCC connectors from the ground up. They're quicker, simpler, and more stable. The connection between Cargo and your 3D app should feel invisible.

You don't need to know what USD stands for. You just need your assets to behave the same way in Blender, Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine, Houdini, Maya, and 3ds Max. They do.

What This Means For You

Cargo 3.0 is built to keep up with how you actually work. Faster search, smarter discovery, a cleaner interface, and two production-ready libraries in one place.
