Unlocking Creativity with Secrets of the Luminara sponsor, Razer!

At Razer, innovation and high performance are at the core of everything they do. As a proud sponsor of the Secrets of the Luminara challenge, Razer is empowering creators with cutting-edge tools to elevate their artistic journeys. In this exclusive interview with Michael Reagan, Senior Global Product Marketing Manager at Razer, we dive into Razer’s commitment to quality, their dedication to supporting creators, and how they’re equipping artists like you to push the boundaries of creativity.

Thanks for joining us Michael! To kick things off, could you share a bit about your background and your journey with Razer? What drew you to the brand, and what’s kept you excited about working in the gaming and creative tech space?

I’ve been at Razer for over seven years now and in that time, I’ve had the privilege of working on a ton of exciting projects, from crazy CES concepts like Project Linda, a mobile phone-powered laptop, to the most cutting-edge devices, like our Razer Blades. What excites me most about Razer is the constant drive to improve, the unwavering commitment to quality, and the willingness to explore unusual ideas!

Razer is “For Gamers. By Gamers.” The tagline is iconic. What does this motto mean in day-to-day operations and product innovation?

For us, the motto is everything. From the earliest stages of product ideation and throughout the entire development process every spec and feature that we explore is done so through the lens of a gamer’s perspective: How does this make the experience better? More accessible? More immersive? We also recognize that gamers play at different levels and on different platforms, so it’s also about building variety to meet them where they’re at and how they play too.

Razer’s hardware is known for meeting the demands of high-performance workflows. How does Razer design its products specifically for creators working with detailed assets like those in KitBash3D's Cargo?

Next to ensuring we’re driving innovation, quality is the biggest pillar of designing any Razer product and it’s incredibly important that a device is not just quality in terms of reliability but also materials used and overall usability. This often means working closely with pros in the space to better understand what they’re looking for, working with industry partners to source best-in-class materials that can achieve those needs, and then testing, refining, and perfecting.

While we are a gaming company first, we found over the years that a lot of our users don't just use our Razer Blades to game but also create on their own. With that in mind, we’ve started building out features that are great for both uses, which is why we’ve added things like Calman Verified OLED displays, high-performance memory, and incredibly fast AMD processors, all of which help accelerate and improve the creative process.

Richard Mans recently used the Razer Blade to create stunning animations for the Secrets of the Luminara trailer. For creators working on intensive animation projects like this, what unique features of the Razer Blade make it a valuable tool in their workflow?

For power users like Richard, who are doing a ton of intensive 3D work, the GPU is king, but not all GPUs are the same, even if they are the same class. The Blade 16 for example features up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, but unlike other laptops that limit the power of the GPU, the Blade 16 pushes the GPU up to the maximum power level, which means greater performance, faster work, and less time wasted.

Partnerships like the one between Razer and KitBash3D play a huge role in empowering the creative community. How does Razer see this collaboration inspiring artists?

Partnerships like the one with KitBash are incredibly important to supporting the growth of the creative community and by combining our hardware expertise with KitBash’s creative expertise, we’re able to showcase what is possible on just a laptop. It creates another avenue for creators who sometimes feel like they need a huge expensive desktop to create their best work, when in reality you can do a ton with very little.

For the Secrets of the Luminara challenge, Razer is offering some incredible products as prizes: the Kraken V4 Headset, Basilisk V3 Pro Mouse, Razer Blade, and ThunderBolt 4 Dock. How do these tools set artists up to tell their stories more effectively and bring their visions to life?

Each product was selected for their dynamic feature set that offers benefits for both gamers and creators alike. The Kraken V4 provides rich audio for pin-point accuracy in game or mixing audio for a video. The Basilisk V3 Pro features up to 11 programmable keys for easy macro access in Photoshop or quick key bindings in an MMO. The wide variety of ports on the ThunderBolt 4 dock greatly expands connectivity to add a breadth of peripherals or easily transfer files from laptop to an SD Card via the UHS-II Reader. And finally, the Razer Blade features the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics to help speed up render times in Premiere or create immersive real-time ray traced scenes in game.

As we wrap up, Michael, what are you most excited to see from the creators participating in the Secrets of the Luminara challenge?

I’m most excited to see how creators leverage the assets in the Kit to tell unique stories that go beyond the cliché or create an absolutely insane game mode that becomes the next big thing. I think I saw a floating boat in the Kit and I’m incredibly excited to see that come into play!

Whether you’re crafting immersive worlds, building intricate scenes, or designing the next big game mode, the combined power of Razer’s hardware and KitBash3D’s premium assets brings new precision and potential to your creative process. These tools work together to meet the demands of your vision, with stunning assets and high-performance hardware that keep pace with your imagination. A special thanks to Michael Reagan for sharing his insights into Razer’s commitment to empowering creators like you.

We invite you to take the Secrets of the Luminara challenge to innovate, tell unique stories, and bring bold visions to life. We can’t wait to see your entries for your chance to win amazing prizes! Until then, happy KitBashing!
