What We Loved from the 2024 Game Awards

This year's edition of the Game Awards was truly a spectacle that celebrated some of the best of what the industry has to offer. For us at KitBash3D, it was a chance to marvel at the projects that are pushing boundaries, telling interesting and original stories, and setting new standards in worldbuilding and design. While the awards themselves honored some truly remarkable games, what really caught our eye were the trailers and announcements surrounding the event.

We’ve rounded up thoughts from a few members of the KitBash3D team about what resonated most during the show and what games we're looking forward to. While some of the games showcased may have featured KitBash3D assets—something we’re always thrilled to see—that’s not the focus here. This is all about celebrating the artistry, creativity, and passion that make the Game Awards such a special event every year.

Whether you’re here to relive your favorite moments or discover what caught our attention, we invite you to join us in exploring the highlights of this year’s awards as we saw them. Let's dive in.

I'm incredibly excited for Split Fiction! It Takes Two was such an amazing, inventive experience, and this looks like it’s following in those footsteps with its creative co-op gameplay. I love co-op campaigns, especially when they require real <ahem> COLLABORATION. It’s refreshing to see games that celebrate working together, and I can’t wait to dive into this one with a friend and explore all the surprises it has in store!

Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic looks like an exciting fresh take on sci-fi. Seeing their creativity and dedication to world-building is inspiring, especially with such a bold and imaginative approach to the genre. It’s a reminder of how powerful environmental storytelling can be and I can’t wait to see more!

There was also a very cool trailer for Screamer. After the event, I got this message from the director of the cinematic: "We used so many KitBash3D assets to populate the world. We spent three months making it in Blender, of all software. Honestly saved us a lifetime of work that would have otherwise added months to our production time. We were able to meet budgets that would otherwise not have even possible to bid without KB3D. We’ll be releasing a BTS on it soon showing how it was made! Thank you for all you’ve done at KB3D to change the industry."

ELDEN RING BABY!!! One of the most exciting announcements from The Game Awards 2024 was FromSoftware's ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN. The roguelike format promises variety and replayability layered over the incredible Elden Ring combat system, but what truly excites me is the chance to see FromSoftware design encounters specifically for multiple players. Imagine the spectacle as their legendary boss designs are pushed to challenge three players at once!

Liosha Shyp, Cinematic Artist

Mafia: The Old Country—it’s incredible! As a huge fan of the original game, this feels like a dream come true. The game takes you back to the 1920s, right in the middle of the Italian mafia world. The story feels so real, with all the drama, loyalty, and betrayal you'd expect from a gangster’s life. I loved the trailer so much — the scenes are stunning, the shootouts look intense, and the soundtrack gives you chills. It’s like stepping into a movie. I’m so hyped for this game.

Mike Reese, Kits

The game awards were filled with some really cool surprises! I'm keeping an eye out for a few games that I think could be extremely interesting. First is the game coming out from the same creators as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The innovation and storytelling in both of those games were next level and I can’t wait to see what they are cooking up. Shadow of the Colossus changed the way I think about scale in video games and it was very inspiring for me growing up. Onimusha holds a special place in my heart and I hope the franchise comes back with an amazing title. I couldn’t get enough of Onimusha 1-3. And because I am a sucker for mech combat, Steel Hunters looks incredibly satisfying and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Seeing The Witcher 4 announcement hit me right in the feels—I’ve been imagining what the next iteration would feel like since the storyline in The Witcher 3 ended. Excited for Ciri to take the main stage and from the announcement video, really excited to see how they unveil some epic moments that they subtly hinted at. Then there’s Solasta 2—those graphics looked amazing. It’s wild to see how far the visuals have come from the first game. Will definitely give the CRPG another try.

The trailer for Dispatch caught my eye. It looks like a ton of fun. The art style, the voice cast, and the story concept - a dispatch center for superheroes - are an incredible mix. Plus, the interactive narrative elements is something I think we don't see enough of. Add in some off-color humor? I'm sold. I can't wait to play it.

Thanks for indulging our fandom and us sharing what we loved from the event. From major titles to indies and everything in between, it’s clear that the future of gaming is brighter than ever.
