KitBash3D joined forces with Epic Games and Skybound to bring The Walking Dead universe into Fortnite. From the infamous Prison to makeshift barricades and comic-inspired props, we crafted detailed, immersive assets now embedded in one of pop culture’s most iconic survival worlds. Designed with both storytelling and gameplay in mind, these environments allow creators to build their unique take on the apocalypse.

Iconic Locations, Reimagined for UEFN

The centerpiece of this collaboration is The Walking Dead’s Prison, an instantly recognizable symbol of survival and loss, carefully reconstructed with rich texture work and atmospheric detail. Functional props, like barricades made from everyday debris and the comic-inspired camper van, bring the world to life in ways that support both visual storytelling and in-game functionality. We also packed the environments with subtle and not-so-subtle easter eggs for dedicated fans to discover.

To bring The Walking Dead into Fortnite with authenticity, we went back to where it all began: the comic books. Every asset was inspired by key narrative moments from the original series, from the crashed outer fence and the weathered camper van to the communal cafeteria and the prison cells that held both love and tragedy.

We approached the environment as a stage for storytelling, layering in details that reflect the people who once lived here, their struggles, relationships, and survival. While the visual tone leans heavily into grounded realism with decayed textures and atmospheric tension, we also ensured the assets worked seamlessly in Fortnite’s fast-paced, creator-driven ecosystem.

From armory racks and survival gear to makeshift barricades, rubble, and environmental debris, every asset is crafted to support storytelling and gameplay alike.

These assets were built with modularity in mind, giving creators the flexibility to design environments that feel lived-in, layered, and uniquely their own. We also focused on gameplay functionality. Many of the assets serve double duty, providing visual storytelling and tactical utility. Barricades offer cover, tight corridors heighten tension, and open spaces set the stage for shootouts or stealth gameplay. Every prop, structure, and surface was designed to serve both the atmosphere and the mechanics of the world.

For creators who love building narrative depth, environmental storytelling is woven throughout. Riot gear marked with faction symbols. Sparse food items that reflect the limited rations of the comics. Subtle details hint at the desperation, resilience, and stories of the people who once called this place home, inviting players to imagine what came before and what happens next.
