In 2017, KitBash3D launched with a simple but ambitious mission: to enable and inspire creators of the virtual frontier. What began as a handful of Kits became the building blocks for thousands of worlds that have since been projected onto the biggest screens, rendered in real-time for games, and shared in countless passion projects across the globe.
Eight years later, we’ve seen artists push the limits of imagination, bending genres, eras, and realities into new forms. From sprawling cyberpunk metropolises to the quiet charm of ancient villages, every Kit tells a story, but it’s your creativity that brings those stories to life.
As we look back, we’re reminded of the incredible journeys these Kits have taken: passed from our team to yours, transformed in ways that inspire us every day. Below, you’ll find some of the moments that defined each year, paired with the artists who brought them to life.
2017
Our first Kits were the foundation of stories that spanned genres and continents. Artists explored every corner of these worlds, proving early on that creativity knows no bounds.“As you go through the years, you start learning what is necessary. I think a lot of people grow slower, because they don’t have the right information.” - Emmanuel Shiu, Warzone Cover Artist
2017 Kits: Gothic, Art Deco, Neo Tokyo, Victorian, Warzone
Featured Artists: Emmanuel Shiu, Haw Jian Jun, Mitchell Stuart, Stravamir, Mike Johnson, Hebron Gusti, Lasse Biltrup, Maxx Burman
2018
From towering utopias to ancient empires, 2018 challenged creators to dream bigger. The community brought these worlds to life in ways we hadn’t imagined, shaping a new standard for immersive storytelling.
“Everything that inspires you is going to inspire your work one way or the other.” - Victor Bonafonte, Every City Cover Artist
2018 Kits: Industrial, Utopia, Future Slums, Roman Empire, Highways, Every City, Brutalist
Featured Artists: Edit Ballai, Beeple, Arnaud Imob, Mitchell Stuart, Finite Infinitus, DoFresh, Leon Tukker
2019
The year of bold new frontiers, from Neo Tokyo II to post-apocalyptic wastelands. Artists pushed our Kits into darker, stranger, and more intricate worlds, turning every challenge into inspiration.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the fantastic, by science fiction, future, or foreign worlds depicted in books, comics, or movies that felt alive and real. I can’t help but imagine new or very old places, faraway ones, or even new variations on the familiar. Without that creation process, I’d feel empty.” - Jan Urshel, Neo Tokyo II Cover Artist
2019 Kits: Ancients, Steampunk, Neo Shanghai, Art Nouveau, Wasteland, Cyber Streets, Neo Tokyo II, Aftermath, Dark Fantasy
Featured Artists: Michaela Wartbichler, Tarmo Juhola, Phoenix DigitalArt, Tomi Vaisanen, Donchenko, d__a__sch davidas, Jan Urshel
2020
2020 tested creators like never before, but your creativity found a way. From the bustling stalls of Medieval Market to the high-tech glow of Neo Dubai, artists turned Kits into worlds full of grit, wonder, and hope. “I am from Nigeria and it's so hard to even get people to look at your work in the industry from here. There were lots of moments when I felt I would never have a chance because of my location. This made me doubt if being a matte painter can even be possible, but things have changed recently, and I am grateful for every big artist that gave me advice and encouraged me. Those guys are the reason I am still doing matte painting.” - Olubunmi John, Arch Vogue Cover Artist
The Dalai Lama said, "Artists have the responsibility to give people hope." Despite all of the struggles of the year, you continued to build worlds that blew us away during the Bright Art, Dark Times challenge. As artists ourselves, we felt a responsibility to give back to the community, giving away over $4M of premium assets during the challenge.

2021
From the historic charm of Colonial to the futuristic reach of Lunar Base, 2021 gave creators the building blocks to craft worlds both familiar and fantastical. Artists brought streets, outposts, and hidden realms to life in immersive, genre-spanning experiences.
“For pieces like this one, where I have a full set of fleshed out models available, I actually do very little research and love to just experiment and see where it takes me. Looking at the kit, I knew right away that I wanted to create some big gateway – something epic and grand. With that idea in mind, the process was very straightforward.” - Oliver Beck, Colonial Cover Artist
2021 Kits: Colonial, Storefronts, Lunar Base, City Streets, Goliath, Valhalla, Los Angeles, Treasure Island, Favelas, Gaea, Outpost, Soviet Blocks, Elysium

Every Kit became a stage for limitless storytelling.“I love modeling and texturing all kinds of things, but I think what I enjoy the most in 3D is finally bringing it all together into a complete environment, trying to capture the essence of the world that I, or someone else, imagined.” - Lea Kronenberger, Neo NYC Cover Artist

2025
This year marks a new era for creators.
You asked for more freedom, more speed, and more ways to create, and we listened.
With KitBash3D Unlimited, you gain access to our entire library, enabling faster, more seamless workflows that put imagination first.
We partnered with Epic Games to bring the tense, surreal world of Squid Game to Fortnite and you brought it to life in the UEFN universe.
And you continue to transform Kits like Noir Futurism, Spaceships: Armada, Lovecraft, London, Enchanted Interiors, and Lovecraft into a stage for storytelling.
“Over the past eight years, the most rewarding part of building KitBash3D has been seeing what creators make with our products. Your creativity fuels us, challenges us, and inspires us to keep raising the bar on the assets and tools we make. We’re endlessly grateful to be a part of your creative journeys, and we can’t wait to see where you take us next.” — Maxx Burman, Co-Founder
